Created by university student Blair Bowman in 2011, World Whisky Day has since become a global phenomenon. Most of us don’t need an excuse to enjoy a dram or two of the water of life, but to mark the occasion, the bar team at five star lifestyle hotel Andaz London Liverpool Street are sharing their recipe for that all-time classic. The Whiskey Sour:
50ml bourbon whiskey (or one egg cup if you don’t have a measure
20ml fresh lemon juice (or two tablespoons)
10-15ml sugar syrup (one to one and a half tablespoons depending on your taste)
10ml egg white (one tablespoon) if you want to add another level of texture.
Put all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker (or jam jar), add ice and shake for 20-30 seconds. To serve, pour through a sieve or tea strainer into a cocktail glass, or if you prefer, into a tumbler filler with ice.
Garnish with a lemon wedge or if you really want to push the boat out, add a couple of drops of bitters and a brandied cherry. Enjoy!
