Travellers looking for a magical getaway will be pleased to hear that the construction of the eagerly anticipated Hotel of Ice, in the heart of Transylvania, has opened its doors.

The remote Hotel of Ice is perched up in the mountains at over 2000m and is only reachable by cable car. It’s a musical theme this year, with sculptures of instruments and famous classical composers from Beethoven to Mozart. The Hotel of Ice has 12 standard igloo rooms, which are priced from as little as £85 per night.

The hotel has its own restaurant, which serves delicious four-course menus from £50. One course is served on an ice plate! For those wanting to warm up with a drink and even a dance, there is also an Ice Bar, which serves drinks in, you guessed it, ice glasses.

The Hotel of Ice’s temperature is typically around -2 degrees, and professional sleeping bags and cosy bedding are provided. The hotel also has a Winter Park with various winter activities, including snowshoeing, sledding, and even a lift that pulls you up the slope in a rubber ring and then slides you back down.

A neighbouring chalet has a bar and restaurant for those who wish to warm up. Warm accommodation is available from £50 per night for those who don’t wish to brave the cold.

Getting There

The nearest Airports are Sibiu (75 mins), Brasov (2 hours) and Bucharest (4 hours).
